Have you ever heard of the phrase, “generational curse”? Maybe you have even found yourself feeling as though your future is defined by one. There’s no perfect family. The good news is, no matter how crazy you think your family is, the power of God can restructure and redirect your life, the life of your children, and your children’s children. While it’s true some things consistently plague families, the pattern can stop with you! You can live freely from them by addressing and meditating on what the Bible says about generational curses.
There is a real power between light and darkness, but we walk in victory as believers. Refuse to use generational curses as an excuse to remain tied to problems or sin.
Generational curses are found in scripture and the Word admonishes us on how to break them. Every family has something that they are up against or a tendency towards, whether that’s divorce, addiction, anger, poverty… But God! Just because we may be prone, doesn’t mean we have to live like it. Even throughout scripture, we see examples of mothers or fathers sinfully adjusting to a lifestyle because of natural circumstances–willfully choosing to follow the path of the curse of those before them. They were following their earthly fathers instead of following their Heavenly one and having their own relationship with Jesus.
Let that encourage you, as a child of God, you can choose a path different than the trends that went on in your family before you. The curse of the law is broken over us and we have freedom in Jesus Christ. No matter what was in your family or your life up to this point, whenever we present ourselves to God, the old is gone, and the new has come. When you give your life to Christ, choose to walk according to His commandments to love Him with all of your heart, and let the power of the Holy Spirit work through you, you’re a generational curse breaker. You are fully empowered as the blessing starter for thousands of generations after you. Each decision you make from that point on to walk in His freedom guarantees the blessing of the Lord upon your life.
Choose to put away any excuses or sinful behavior, allowing the fruit of the spirit to manifest through you, and begin to live in the declarations that your past is not your future. Declare that you are a curse breaker for generations that come after you; you are stopping the cycle of sin and dysfunction. Generational curses stop with you.
