SHOW NOTES:

If God has placed a promise, purpose, or desire in your heart, you may feel like you don’t know how to begin. How can you make your calling a reality? If this sounds familiar, rest assured that it’s normal to wonder what to do next. Starting can be scary when uncertain about the outcome, but let this encourage you to have faith and take the first step!

Scripture tells us to not despise the day of small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin (Zechariah 4:10).  Shift your perspective from the small beginnings that may not motivate you to the potential of the promise. When God is at work in our lives, there is a tension; He begins with something small, in seed form. It’s what we do with that seed and the prompting that He gives us that determines if we will see it come to pass.

Oftentimes we wait for something big to happen, but we should remember Matthew 25:23--those who are faithful in small things will be rewarded with more. What God does in us starts small, then as we are obedient, He multiplies it. Has God given you a big promise? Big promises take more time to grow and develop!

So, how do you start? Start by daring to begin small, even when you don't feel motivated, and remain consistent using the following keys!

TIP 1: God talks to your spirit, not your mind. God is spiritual, so we receive His promises in our spirit. The mind, on the other hand, has to be renewed to catch up to the spiritual. Our minds are not naturally geared towards faith; they are geared towards doubt. When a promise is spoken to your spirit, it will not be shaken. If you can figure it out in your mind, it’s probably not God

TIP 2: Pray on it and pray through it. Don’t just flippantly start, ask for wisdom, confirmation, and clarity on what you are to do next. God will give you directives when you consider prayer Holy and ask for help.

TIP 3: Have a steadfast mind. There will always be obstacles and excuses. When God calls us to "walk on water," we have to be steadfast. Don’t doubt what you’ve heard, and don’t doubt yourself– just do it. God is intentional. If God calls you to it, He will get you through it. It’s not by our own strength, it’s by God’s (Philippians 2:13).

TIP 4: Know that you won’t feel ready. His power is perfected in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

TIP 5: Ask God for small ways you can start. Even one thing will bring you closer to what God has called you to.

If you’re asking yourself if you should, the answer is “Yes!” Just start!

If you’re asking yourself, “How?” Apply the key principles.

If you’re asking yourself what it even is that you start? Ask Him!

Whatever you do today, be encouraged. God has a great plan and purpose for you!
