Love First
Show Notes:
Sometimes we overcomplicate our relationships, but the keys to lasting relationships are often quite simple! To strengthen your marriage, remember the things you did first in your relationship and revisit those patterns.
Take a moment to reminisce on the way you felt and what you did well when you first began dating your spouse. What you did at the start of your relationship is what you have to do to have and maintain a healthy, vibrant marriage for years to come. Marriage isn’t the finish line; it’s just the beginning!
It’s all about first love. The first love you had for your spouse and more importantly, the first love referring to that of your love for Jesus Christ. A Christ-centered marriage and the connection you have spiritually with your spouse will ensure a marriage will thrive. Marriage is a cord of three with God as the center and foundation.
So, what did you do at first? Chances are you prioritized your spouse and invested time and effort into your significant other. Give yourself permission to enjoy the relationship again. Be intentional to prioritize all of those fun times you spent together, dating, flirting, and enjoying one another’s company. You’re partners in this life, and get to spend every day with your best friend! Don’t allow the busyness of life to rob you of all of the joys a marriage has to offer. Honor one another, serve one another, and communicate openly with one another. Be mindful to avoid withdrawing from your husband whether that’s from accepting kindness or intimacy. Even when you may not feel your best, know that your spouse loves you unconditionally.
The areas that are best in any relationship are those that have been invested in by both husband and wife. As for the areas in need of improvement? Invite the Holy Spirit into your marriage to teach you how to operate in unity and love. Praise God together, get in the word together, grab a marriage devotional to help you connect spiritually.
Keep it simple–have fun, be grateful God has given you your spouse, and let time with them be something you enjoy. Friend, get back to your first love!
