Show Notes:

Each and every one of us wants to obey God and do his will, but sometimes we start to question ourselves if we really heard from God. We wonder if it is actually God’s voice guiding us or if it is something we are making up. However, you must understand that God does speak to you! He wants us to be confident enough in our relationship with Him that we can discern His voice from the voices of the world.

There are three basic principles that you can follow to discern the voice of God. Following these principles will help you improve your relationship with the Lord and better follow His guidance.

1.     When you are having a conversation with God, you should approach the conversation expecting to hear from Him. Your expectation should always be that you will hear from the Lord. He wants to communicate with you. Prayer is not a formal language or something you do out of formality. It is a relationship with God. Position yourself and train yourself to have an expectation for Him to speak to you.

The Bible says if you have asked Jesus into your heart, you are righteous before him. This means you can boldly approach the throne of God. How you see God affects how you approach Him. If you feel you are doing something wrong, you won't be bold in your approach to Him and will not expect to hear from Him as you are expecting wrath. But He delights in you, and He loves you. You must understand that God is for you. No prayer is too little or bothers Him.

2.     You need to align yourself to hear from Him. How we position ourselves is so important. You need to be super protective of the atmosphere you are putting yourself into. Other voices or chaos around you can make it difficult to hear from Him. In still, quiet places, God can speak to us. If we aren’t careful, we can allow our spirits to be bombarded by the noise of the world. Whatever you focus on is going to have a place in your life. Get up, put away the phone, put on worship music, and have your conversation with God away from any distractions. Still yourself before the Lord. There is power in the atmosphere that you create, but are you willing to shut out the noise of the world?

3.     Consider the source. When you walk with God, you start to learn his voice quickly in your life. It takes faith for you to receive that the voice you hear is God. Your mind will always try to talk you out of the things of the spirit. It will talk you out of what God wants to do in your life. So, if it feels like it is God, receive it. Take it to the Word or ask a spiritual mentor if you aren’t sure if it is the Lord telling you. Remember, He always operates within the boundaries of His Word.

When you hear His voice, things become a lot easier, a lot simpler, and a lot clearer. Learn to grow in hearing the voice of God. As you do this, you will see your relationship with God grow drastically, and the struggles will become fewer and fewer. When you understand these principles, you can start walking forward in what God is calling you to.
